Auto Safety Tips

By keeping your car in tip top shape, you prevent malfunctions from causing accidents thus keeping your insurance rates low.

1. Check your tire treads regularly.
Tires are the only thing that keeps your car on the road and provides you with traction. Look for bold tires(no or very little thread). Irregular bolding pattern: if you notice certain parts of your tire is bolder than other parts that is an indication of alignment or suusension problem. Get your car checked out at a service station and fix the problem and the tire.

2. Monitor air pressure in your tires.
Every tire has a specific air pressure that it performs the best. Having too little or too high air pressure in your tires will advesly effect your vehicle's handling. Correct air pressure will also give you the best fuel milage saving you some money.

3. Know your tires
Not all tires are the same nor perform the same. Summer tires are designed for sporty car and some cars with optional sports package come with sports tires from the factory(bmw, porsche, Mercedes, etc.) Summer tires are for summer use only and they provide higher grip than other tire types. Downside is when the temperature goes down, their soft rubber compund tends to freeze and provide little to no grip. So if you have summer tires on your vehicle, plan on replacing them with all-season or winter tires during cold weather. Most cars use all-season tires which provide good overall grip in all weather conditions. They are the middle of the road between winter and summer tires. They give you better grip during winter but not as good as winter tires. During summer, their grip is good but not as good as the summer tires. Winter tires give you the best traction in the snow but do not perform as well in dry conditions. So know what kind of tires you have on your car and drive accordingly.

4. Fix the Check Engine Light.
If the check engine light is ON in your vehicle, there is a reason for it. Most late model cars have electronic monitoring systems. If the check engine light is ON that means there is somethign wrong with your car. It could be something minor, but it could also be something that could cause an accident as well such as your braking system. Ignoring the light will only make things worse. A small fix that could easily be fixed can lead to huge repair bills if ignored. Go to a mechanic and get your car fixed.

6. Replace your brake and cooling fluid every 2 years..
Brake fluid will absorb moisture as time goes by which will cause it to boil at lower temperatures. Using old brake fluid and series of high braking actions could cause your brakes to fail. By mainting your cars braking and cooling system, you prevent break downs while driving reducing the chance of you having an accident.

7. Brake Pads. Squeks .
Get your brake pads check by a mechanic regularly. An when it comes to replacing them do so with a oem quality pads.

8. Suspension and alignment. .
In order to drive safe, your car has to drive straight. If your car pulls to one side instead on going straight, that migh mean you cars alignment is off or one of your tires have low air pressure. Check your tires and if they are good, get an alignment for your car. Also if you notice that your car is bounching up and down more than it used to, this is an indication of a suspension problem. A blow suspension will cause the wheel to bounce over road irregularites. Tires are mean to roll over the bumps, not jump over them. Since a itre that is in the air, has 0 traction; it is dangerious to drive with a blown suspension.
